D. Charles K. Allen AO MA (Cantab) MSc, DIC, Hon LLD (Monash) FTSE

Charles Allen was Chairman of the Cambridge Australia Trust from 1996 to 2002. He was born and educated in England. His working career was in the oil and gas industry, initially as an exploration geophysicist working with Shell in various parts of the world and later in production and general management in Nigeria. He was posted to Australia in 1979 as Executive Director of Woodside Petroleum Ltd and Chairman of the North West Shelf LNG Project, the largest undertaking by a non-government organisation in Australia at that time. He became Managing Director of Woodside in 1982 and retired in 1996 when the project was complete.

He was appointed AO in 1990 and received the Centenary Medal in 2003. He has been a Director and Chairman of CSIRO, NAB, Air Liquide Australia Ltd. and The Florey Neuroscience Institutes. He has also been a Director of Metals Manufacturers, Earthwatch Institute, Amcor and AGL.

He married Angela Evatt (dec. 2001) in 1964 and had two sons (both of whom went to Cambridge) and a daughter. He married Jocelyn Searby in 2002. His interests include golf, cricket, music, fishing and travel.
